Meet the DGIW for District 45
My name is Rob Finlay, the DGIW reappointed to a second term for District 45, in the state’s Central Tablelands and Central West region, encompassing Lodges in Blayney, Cowra, Canowindra, and Orange with a population base of around 65,000 people. Today, part of the traditional agricultural industry base of old, has given way to mining and the service industries. Professionally, my career has been dominated by primary production, firstly agriculture and then forestry. More recently my attention has moved to education, lecturing at University and TAFE.
Freemasonry for me started in 1967 as a 19-year-old, and I have never stopped learning about or enjoying the Craft ever since. I joined Lodge Central Australia (Bourke), my father’s mother Lodge, and served as WM in 1974. On leaving Bourke my family and I moved to Trangie where we lived during much of the 80’s and served 3 terms as WM of Lodge Trangie. A further move in the late 80’s was to Orange which we have made our home for 30 years. My wife Monique and I have three married children and seven grandchildren.
In 2010 my eldest son, David, installed me as WM in Lodge Canoblas Lewis which adopted me as an affiliate nearly 30 years ago. I received Grand Lodge honours in 2006 (PDGDC) and in 2013 (PJGW). Over the last 15 years I have had the pleasure of regularly disseminating and distributing educational material as a District and Lodge Education Officer and am currently an Accredited Masonic Speaker.
I look forward to serving as DGIW again, as it will give me an opportunity to give back to Freemasonry at least some of that which it has given me over so many years. A priority is making closer ties not only with Lodges within the District, but also those of the surrounding area, while strengthening current friendships and making new ones. I will continue to encourage Masons everywhere to have regular health checks.
The community has been a strong part of my life, 30 years as a Blood Donor, 20 years as a Scout Leader and extended periods with P&C and local Hospital Board. I am currently a member of the Rose Croix and the Sovereign Council and for a time was a Royal Arch Mason.
