Meet the RGC for Region 4
I’d like to introduce myself as the Regional Grand Councellor for Region 4.
My name is Peter Stoneman and I am a retired Technical Services Manager living in Bathurst.
I was born in Oberon and grew up on the property that now forms the core of Mayfield Gardens.
I was educated in Bathurst and Sydney and was working in Bathurst when I met and married Elizabeth, who was a local government planner. She too is now retired after a working career in the profession. We have a daughter, Thea who graduated from The University of Wollongong in 2017 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Batchelor of Science (Physiology).
I was initiated as a Lewis into Lodge City of the Plains (607) and progressed through the offices and served as Master in 1981 – 1982.
After a career move to Leeton I joined Lodge Leeton-Yanco (313) and served as Master in 1992 - 1993 and as DGIW of then District 93 from 1996 to 1999. Following retirement and a move back to Bathurst I affiliated with Lodge Barham (561) where I am currently Senior Deacon.
For some reason, many of my jobs have been in fields starting with ‘pea/pee’, petroleum products, paint, particle board, pathology, plant proteins and pesticides as examples. I’ve also served time as a microbiologist with SunRice and finally as ‘fixer’ with a Riverina based biological fertilizer company.
One of the highlights of my time with NSW Agriculture/EPA was being part of the team that developed the ChemCert and SmartTRAIN chemical user programs and then shepherding them into legislation.
Outside of work, I’m actively involved with the local Ulysses group, currently riding a BMW R1200R, my eighth or ninth BMW I think. I also do some pushbike riding and photography. For exercise, I swim a bit and walk quite a lot. In the six years up to August 2017, I’ve walked over 31 million steps or close to the equivalent of 65% of the circumference of the earth.
I look forward to working alongside the Masons of Region 4 in the betterment of the Craft.
